FSSAI Food Registration Online - Process, Document Required and Fees

FSSAI, which stands for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It is governed by the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006 and has the objective of regulating, registering, governing, and issuing FSSAI registration to food business operators in India.

The FSSAI has a set of rules and guidelines under the Food Safety and Standards Regulations 2011 to ensure the quality of food products. It manages food testing standards and testing protocols to reduce contamination and illicit practices in the food industry.

What is FSSAI registration?

FSSAI registration is a 14-digit uniform numbering license and registration issued by FSSAI as per the FSS act 2006 to all food business operators, this registration number is required to be printed on all the food products as it provides.

Getting an FSSAI registration online is an imperative duty for all food business operators ( FBO ) as per sections 31(1) & 31(2) of FSS ACT, 2006 to commerce in food business legally in India.

FSSAI Registration Process

Documents required for online FSSAI registration (Food license)

Basic Registration : 

General documents required for basic FSSAI registration.

  • Authorized person address proof such as Aadhar card, driving license, PAN card
  • Passport size photo
  • Business name and address
  • Form IX nomination of a person as per FSS rules
  • Details of directors/ proprietors and executive members
  • PAN and bank details
  • Nature of business details
  • NOC from the municipality or panchayat
  • Proof of the premise ownership or rental agreement
  • NOC from the owner of the rented property ( if rented )

FSSAI State License

Document required for FSSAI State license other than general documents.

  • Form-B Duly completed and signed by the proprietors, partners, or authorized signatory
  • Copy of certificate obtained under COOP-ACT, 1861/multistate COOP-ACT, 2002 in case of cooperatives
  • Partnership deed/ memorandum and article of association toward the constitution of the firm
  • Layout plan of the processing unit showing the dimensions in square meter/ meter ( mandatory for manufacturing and processing units only )
  • Authorized letter with name and full details of the responsible person nominated by the manufacturer and alternative responsible person
  • List of directors, proprietors, and executive members of society or trust with full detail
  • Name and list of all the equipment and machines along with numbers installed capacity and horsepower
  • Chemical and bacteriological analysis report in case of water used as an ingredient.
  • IE code document issued by DGPT
  • Recall plan wherever applicable
  • Certificate provided by the ministry of tourism
  • Form IX
  • Declaration in the case of Haryana and Delhi
  • Food safety and management plan

Central License

Documents are required for FSSAI central license.

Form-B Duly completed and signed by the proprietors, partners, or authorized signatory

  • Form IX – nomination of a person by the company along with the board resolution
  • NOC and a copy of the license from the manufacturer are mandatory for repackers only
  • Ministry of Commerce certificate for 100% EOU
  • NOC/PA Document issued by FSSAI
  • IE code document issued by DGPT
  • Supporting document for turnover proof
  • Source of raw materials for meat and meat processing units
  • Certification from the ministry of tourism
  • Source of milk or procurement plan for milk including the location of milk collection centres
  • Layout plan of the processing unit showing the dimensions in square meter/ meter ( mandatory for manufacturing and processing units only )
  • List of directors, proprietors, and executive members of society or trust with full detail
  • Name and list of all the equipment and machines along with numbers installed capacity and horsepower
  • Food safety and management plan
  • For transporters-supporting document proof of turnover or self-declaration of numbers of vehicles
  • Copy of certificate obtained under COOP-ACT, 1861/multistate COOP-ACT, 2002 in case of cooperatives
