In India, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has introduced the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) to regulate and certify products like Lithium-ion batteries for the Indian market. This government program aims to guarantee the quality and safety of products sold in India. Under the CRS, all Lithium-ion batteries must undergo registration with the BIS and comply with specific quality and safety standards. This measure safeguards consumers from purchasing counterfeit or hazardous products and fosters fair competition by enforcing uniform standards for all Lithium-ion batteries.

The BIS has established several standards for Lithium-ion batteries, encompassing sound quality, battery life, and safety parameters. These batteries must undergo testing at an accredited laboratory to ensure compliance with these standards. Upon successful registration and passing of the required tests, a Lithium-ion battery will receive a BIS certification mark. This mark signifies that the product has met all CRS requirements and is deemed safe for use in India.
